Happy National Donut Day!

Duke City Donuts
Maple Bacon Donut

Today is National Donut Day.  It seems fitting to write about our favorite donut shop, Duke City Donuts.  All the donuts made here are exceptionally delicious and hmm hmm good!  They taste like your Mother’s homemade donuts and are made fresh each morning.

Have you ever eaten a homemade maple bacon donut?  I certainly hadn’t.  Out of sheer curiosity I decided that I just had to try one at Duke City Donuts.  Not only had I seen that this small business was recently awarded a “Hot Plate” award from Albuquerque The Magazine, but I also needed to use my Living Social voucher before it expired.  The stars were aligned in my favor.

My family enjoys freshly made donuts every now and then.  Usually we get a typical assortment – some sugar, glazed, cinnamon, raspberry filled and whatever catches our fancy.  I’d seen the maple bacon donut before and had thought to myself, “hmmm…how unusual.”  With some trepidation I added two to my box, figuring my husband would also want to try one.  If you like maplewood smoked bacon (and who doesn’t like bacon!) over french toast or a waffle, you will like this donut.  And if you don’t, there are many other delectable little confections of goodness to choose from.

Happy Donut Day!
